Paying a visit to the supermarket is inevitable for all of us, and moving to a new country like Turkey where people speak a totally different language makes the shopping process harder especially when needing help. 

That is why, in this blog post, I have composed the most important basic Turkish sentences and questions that you should know. Keep in mind that you might need to change some words according to the conversation you are conducting but the structure of the Turkish sentence will be similar.

Basic Turkish Conversation at the Supermarket


Kadın: bakar mısınız, süt nerede bulabilirim?
Woman: excuse me, where can I find milk?

Çalışan: 2. rafta
Worker: on the 2nd shelf

Kadın: 1 litre alabilir miyim?
Woman: Can I have 1 liter?

Çalışan: tabi, buyurun effendim. Başka isteğiniz var mı?
Worker: of course, here you are. Do you have another request?

Kadın: Evet, şekeri arıyordum bulamadım!
Woman: yes, I was looking for the sugar and couldn't find it!

Çalışan: kaç kilo istiyorsun?
Worker: how many kilos do you want?

Kadın: 2.5 kilo olsun. Bir de, tuz nerede bulabilirim?
Woman: Let it be 2.5 kilos. Also, where can I find salt?

Çalışan: arkada, sekerin yanında. Başka isteğiniz var mı?
Worker: at the back, next to the sugar. Do you have another request?

Kadın: Hayır, teşekkür ederim
Woman: No, thank you

Kadın: borcum ne kadar?
Woman: How much do I owe?

Çalışan: poşet olacak mı?
Worker: (Do you want a bag)

Kadın: iki tane olsun
Woman: Let it be two

Çalışan: Tamam, 150 lira (yüz elli lira). Temassız var mı?
Worker: Ok, 150 lira. (is it contactless)

Kadın: Hayır…Kolay Gelsin
Woman: No….(let it be easy)
